身份的根是「全日制在读」：休学、退学、转学空档期一律不能打工

能不能打工，看你是不是正在全日制上学。一旦休学、退学、被开除，或者转学期间没在上课，打工资格当场就没了。这时候接着干，就是非法打工。很多人以为签证没到期就没事，其实身份早断了。

加拿大明文规定，在获批的休学期间不得校外打工。转学期间没有在学习的，也不得校外打工。要等恢复学业以后，才能重新开始工作。美国的校内打工资格只给 SEVIS 里身份为 Active 的 F-1 学生。SEVIS 是美国的留学生身份档案系统，Active 是在读有效。这些学生还要维持全日制课业。英国的打工许可按课程类型给，非全日制课程不得打工
